Christian Chat Host First Online Communion Good Friday Service

Struggling to get to church? This Good Friday Christian Chat UK (www.christianchat.co.uk) held the first live online communion service with people all over the world taking part. Using the latest in chat room technology the organisers based in Wilmslow, Cheshire used webcams so people could participate in the service throughout the world.
The service was held on Good Friday and over 37 people joined from countries all over the world including the UK, USA, Sweden, South Africa and more. The service included video clips sent to users, Bible verses posted to the room, with the act of communion being carried out using live webcam and voice.
One of the users in chat said, “I just want say thanks because this is amazing in here tonight, I’ve been quite far away from God the last week but this has totally brought me back. It sounds weird but he is in this chat room with us”
Chris Clarke Director of Christian Chat said “Many people find it difficult to access church and at times find it hard to relate to traditional services. Christian Chat reaches out using modern technology to bring church to peoples homes.”
“Each week we hold various services including Bible study and prayer meetings but this it the first time I have ever heard of a Communion service live online. Christian Chat has become a lifeline to many users who are not able to attend traditional church.” Chris continued.
Christian Chat has been established for over 10 years and is the busiest UK moderated Christian Chat room. Each month thousands of people use the chat room which allows users to use voice and video as well as text chat.

KEEPING SAFE IN ONLINE CHAT ROOMS

Keeping safe in online chat rooms
A lot of dicussion goes on about how safe it is to chat online, indeed a couple of well known chat sites have closed their chat rooms.

Christian Chat has a number of features in place to keep our chat rooms as safe as possible. However there are a number of common sense guidlines you should take to protect yourself online. Some of the systems we employ to protect you include:

Dedicated volunteers (Monitors) monitor the rooms, our new login system requires that everyone provide valid contact details, and our monitoring system records IP address and connection times for every user and all messages (unlike some other Christian and general chat room, this includes private messages) are logged. Our system automativally filters out bad words - this is constantly being updated and added to. We believe that our chat site is safer to use than other instant messaging programmes. We have also recently set up an anonymous Whistleblower service [find out more]

Some of the advice you should employ: Christian Chat would recommend that users do not disclose their name, address, email address, telephone number or other personal information while online. This also includes any personal information on your profile.

Our Monitors will never request such details online. It is advisable for parents to ensure their children are aware of this.

Do not share your personal details, particularly your work or home addresses.

When you log into chat, you choose a chat nickname. Your first line of defense is to choose a chat nickname that is not your real name, or location.

Jesus in a pint pot?

They did not quite say "Cheers!" but churches, including those with a history of opposition to strong drink, yesterday took a relaxed attitude to a new advert featuring the face of Jesus picked out in the froth in an almost empty beer glass.
The advert carrying the question "where will you find him?", is designed to encourage church attendance this Christmas, and is the latest work of the Churches Advertising Network, an independent Christian group.

The church needs to find new way to engage with those who do not usually attend on a Sunday morning - indeed many of those people nursing hangovers from the Saturday night. Perhpas this new initiave will in some way reach out.

Christian Chat has always sought to stay on the cutting edge of technology to reach out to those who do not attend church.
